“Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time”
An exhibition by Ballina sisters Nora Cawley Giblin and Christine Cawley Kilcullen
Official Opening 7pm – Saturday 22nd October – Ballina Arts Centre
Nora, a retired art teacher and Christine, a graphic designer/illustrator both display a love of nature in their works – from the beauty of nature’s rich colours, to the intricacy of textures and patterns woven in land and sea.
Rural tranquility is captured in many of their works. Nora likes to combine varied techniques in her works – embroidery blended with painting, weaving, felting and she also likes working with oil pastels and colour pencils. Christine enjoys small details, and works happily in pen, pencil, watercolour, acrylics.
Encouraged in their art careers by their supportive parents, who themselves came from a rural background, it is fitting that the sisters have now returned to those tranquil rural roots to find their inspiration.
Having retired from teaching in 2018, Nora had always wanted to create her own work, and time out during covid allowed her to do so. This exhibition slot was available in the Ballina Arts Centre and with the assistance of the then curator Sean Walsh, it afforded Nora the opportunity to exhibit. Knowing her sister’s style of work, inviting Christine to join her was a natural step.
During the pandemic, time out created a deeper awareness of the beauty of their surroundings, with details captured on canvas and in sketch pads.
Come have a look at their connection with nature. Enjoy the tranquility their works invoke.
Come have a little ‘Time Out’ just to see and enjoy.
Some of their favourite pieces can be obtained as giclee prints on fibre-based archival paper – limited editions available.
