Eve O’Callaghan is an Irish painter based between London and Co. Sligo. Here she presents a collection of paintings made in the past year. These recent paintings consider the material and conceptual potential of the most basic elements of a paintings: frame, surface and ground. These paintings find subtle complexity in surface rather than image, asking the viewer to examine empty space as it exists both inside and outside the frame.
Eve O’Callaghan (b. 1996) graduated with an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2023, where she completed many of the works on show here. She formerly held the Recent Graduate Residency at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios in 2019 and won the Adams Award at the RHA annual in 2018. She now works primarily from her studio in London.
